Junker & Ruh SD 28 leather stitching machine for shoemaking and general leather work. The machine is in ready to use condition and made for stitching of shoe soles and also sewing of all kind of leather work. This machines are made by the Junker & Ruh AG in Karlsruhe, Germany from beginning of the 20th century till 1950s.
The machine was fully disassembled, cleaned, greased and test sewn by me.
The Junker & Ruh SD 28 can work with up to 1 cm of leather or leather/ rubber combination. It comes with my replica of a original parallel stop. This makes it easier to guide the seam parallel to the sole edge or edge of the leather. The stitch distance can be adjusted from 5-8 spi (see pictures). The machine comes with a size 6 needle and 1 x size 6 spare needle.
The machine was made to work with strong linen yarn. As lower thread a waxed linen yarn was used. As upper yarn a raw linen yarn was used and guided through the tragacanth reservoir.
Now, waxed or unwaxed saddler or trout yarns are used. For that, the original thread brake wheel does not work optimally. To improve it, I came up with a different thread braking system. This exerts direct pressure on the upper thread and can be adjusted very finely (see picture). It comes with the machine in addition to the original system.
