A wooden moulding block is a traditional shoemaker tool in Japan, called "Anaboko". It is used to bend insole and outsole to the shape of the bottom of the last. Furthermore, it is used to shape the heel counter. Used with a normal shoemaker hammer.
The anaboko is made in my workshop. It´s made from solid maple wood and finished with hard wax oil. The outer dimensions are about 13 cm x 20 cm x 5 cm.
In the following two YouTube videos from Japanese shoemaker and mentor So Tsuchiya, you can see a wooden moulding block in use.
In the first video from minute 1:20

and in second video from minute 3:50
This tool was also popular for shoemakers in the United States. The last picture shows a steel moulding block made by USMC (United Shoe Machinery Corporation).
