A welting board is a great tool to support you in the shoemaking process. It fixes the shoe with the bottom up on your legs. You don´t have to hold the shoe with a leather strap on your thighs. This is in many positions very uncomfortable and you have to turn your upper body, to get in the right angle for the next stitch. With the welting board you can easily turn the shoe on your legs in the needed position.
Furthermore, the shoe comes higher on your legs and you don´t have to bend your neck and back so much.
A comfortable working position and a securely held shoe are the best prerequisite for repeatable, clean stitches and fun at work.
The welting board is made from birch wood in my workshop. The front support has a thick padding made from 4 mm veg tanned leather. The back support has two end pieces, to avoid last movement to the side and a leather pad against slipping.
The front support is screwed and you can move it back or forward if a very short or long last requires it. The holes are already drilled.
The welting board can be ordered with or without strap, if you already have one. The strap has a length of about 770 mm. The board can not be used without strap.
